Proposal for Collaboration with First Nations Peoples to Enhance EOL's Australian and Austronesian Biodiversity Data Index

I am currently in the process of reaching out to First Nations peoples via the Australia Museum to explore the possibility of collaborating with EOL in contributing their valuable knowledge on Australian and Austronesian species, particularly in relation to traditional conservation practices, species identification, and ecological changes over time. The potential collaboration would provide a more holistic understanding of biodiversity and could guide future conservation efforts with insights that modern science has only recently begun to recognize and appreciate.

This collaboration could also help the EOL better document the unique biodiversity of the Austronesian region, incorporating not only the scientific perspective but also the traditional ecological knowledge that has been passed down through generations. This approach would align with EOL’s mission to document and share knowledge about the world’s species while promoting a more inclusive and diverse understanding of biodiversity.

Wish me luck, hopefully this will crease the EOL activity levels and include collaboration from international group! :four_leaf_clover: :v:t5:

That’s a great idea, @BioSohan1 ! I have one related suggestion, in case it is considered important by your contacts. Our web interface is not yet available in any indigenous Australian or Austronesian languages. If there are nations which would like to be able to access our content in their language, we have partners online that can facilitate translation of open access information into any language that has an ISO language code. This could include species names, scientific vocabulary, or the standard bits of text in the EOL web interface, to make the site available in that language.

Will do if necessary thanks!
