I downloaded traits_all.zip from All trait data - All trait data - OpenData.eol.org, but when I try to unzip it I get
Checksum Error in trait_bank/traits.csv. The file is corrupt.
I can neither unzip it with Windows File Explorer or WinRAR, but the other files in the trait bank work fine.
Is this on my end only?
Hmm… I just downloaded the archive and the traits.csv file did appear to open normally for me in my text editor (BBedit). Once you have unzipped the traits_all archive all files inside should behave the same. Granted, traits.csv is by far the largest. Have you tried opening it in a text editor?
I do apologize for the state of our hosting in general. We’re preparing for a server update. We are also in the process of migrating our downloadable files from their previous management product to zenodo, so you will also find the archive at All trait data: All trait data. If there’s an issue plaguing the download process from our old platform, chances are it won’t occur from the new host.

I couldn’t unzip the one file with the tools used, so there was no reason for trying to read the compressed file. I got the same results with the new archive you sent, however I tried unzipping with 7-Zip now, which gave me a “data error”, but uncompressed the file anyways. It seems that the resulting file doesn’t have any problems with it.
sorry- I was misled by your reference to “the other files”. A different download product, I gather. I’m glad the new copy cooperated with 7-zip. If you encounter difficulties with any other resources in our zenodo, please let us know!
